DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD. The Association
recognized Bob Fitzgerald of Sandy Run Country Club as its 2014 Distinguished Service Award recipient during the Pro.-President, Golf & Green
event on May 14 at Philadelphia Country Club. Fitzgerald, 87, stepped
down this season after serving the last 25 years as an Association volunteer. He is the 2008 Volunteer of the Year. Fitzgerald has served in various
club official capacities at Sandy Run, where he’s been a member the last
31 years, including as a voice for the Junior Program. Fitzgerald, a Warmin-ster, Pa. resident, started in golf as a youngster caddying at Manufacturers
Golf & Country Club. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II before eventually landing a job at PECO as a Construction Detailer Designer.
Fitzgerald started volunteering for the Association after a discussion with
former Executive Committee member Jim McCann. Since, he’s chimed the
cause at SRCC, and has been responsible for the high volume of Sandy
Run volunteers who assist the Association. John Choyka (left), chairman
of the Awards Committee, presented Fitzgerald with the DSA.
