New GAP President Frank E. Rutan, IV
Frank E. Rutan, IV was elected the
31st President of the Golf Association of Philadelphia at the organization’s Annual Meeting Oct. 19
at Chester Valley Golf Club. Rutan, a Philadelphia
Cricket Club member, replaced Richard P. Meehan,
Jr., who served in that role the last three years.
“It’s an incredible honor,” said Rutan, 55, of Am-
bler, Pa. “To serve an organization with such a rich
history and tradition is special. My goal as Presi-
dent is to help the Association continue fulfilling its
mission of protecting, promoting and preserving
the game in the Delaware Valley.”
Rutan served on the Association’s Executive Com-
mittee as treasurer the last six years, first under Daniel
Burton and then Meehan. Rutan was named to the
Golf Association of Philadelphia board after serving
with the Pennsylvania Golf Association from 1998-
2005. He was that organization’s President in 2004.
“Frank has already demonstrated his commit-
ment to the game and to the Association during his
six years on the Executive Committee. During
these difficult economic times you want a trusted
advisor on the steering wheel of the finance team.
Behind the scenes, Frank managed the Associa-
tion’s finances with due care as our treasurer,” said
outgoing President Rich Meehan. “On the front
lines, Frank has been committed to adding value to
the GAP membership and to promoting to the
game of golf in our area. The Association is in good
hands with Frank as President.”
A native of Wayne, Rutan is a graduate of Epis-
copal Academy and the University of Virginia. He
returned to the Philadelphia area after college and
has worked in the financial community ever since.
Rutan is currently with WhartonHill Advisors, where
he was a founding partner.
