Flacco: I started playing golf in 10th or 11th grade. I began playing for fun
and was afforded the opportunity to have a junior membership at Merchantville
Country Club. I ended up at Merchantville because my grandfather, Tom
Madden, belonged there.
GAP: What do you enjoy most about being a Merchantville member?
Flacco: I enjoy Merchantville because it is close and a nice place to play while I
am in South Jersey. It is also a great place to get together with my family for a meal.
GAP: What are your favorite holes at Merchantville and why?
Flacco: The first and the fifth are my favorite holes: the first hole because it is
a par 5 and I can easily reach it in two; the fifth because it is a par 4 and with a
good tee shot I can drive the green.
GAP: What role does golf play in your life?
Flacco: It is a way to relax and have fun with friends and family. I really only
get to play 5-10 times per year now.
GAP: Where do you golf when you’re in Baltimore?
Flacco: When in Baltimore, I don’t really have much time to golf, so there is no
place in particular that I go.
GAP: What’s your most memorable golf moment?
Flacco: I am still waiting to have a most memorable golf moment.
GAP: If you had to pick a fellow Baltimore Raven to be your better-ball
teammate, who would it be and why?
Flacco: Dennis Pitta, Morgan Cox, and Sam Koch are the only other golfers
(that I am aware of) on the team. Dennis and I are close so he is the one I would
most likely spend time with on the golf course.
GAP: How does playing golf alleviate the pressures of being a starting NFL
quarterback, if at all?
Flacco: I really don’t play golf in-season so I don’t think it alleviates the
pressures of being an NFL QB.
