Merion Golf Club’s Michael McDermott secured his second Crump Cup title (2012) on Sept. 24 at Pine Valley Golf Club. The five-time William Hyndman, III Player of the Year defeated Bill Williamson of Cincinnati, Ohio, 1-up, in the 18-hole final.
“I guess there is something about Pine Valley and Crump week that
makes this more special than all the others for me. I guess a little home
course knowledge doesn’t hurt, either,” McDermott, 42, of Bryn Mawr,
Pa., said in a release posted on amateurgolf.com.
Standing 1-down against Williamson on No. 17, McDermott holed a
52-degree wedge from 125 yards for eagle to square the contest. He
prevailed on the 18th hole with a par.
Now in its 93rd year, the George A. Crump Memorial Tournament is a
four-day, invitation-only event. It’s one of the country’s premier invitationals.
